Tap Out is a focus tool that blocks a list of websites you choose until you physically tap your phone to an NFC tag. It has two parts that work together on your own devices: a browser extension (Chrome / Brave) and a companion app on your Mac. This policy explains how Tap Out handles your information.
In one sentence: Tap Out keeps everything on your own devices and sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
Information Tap Out stores
To do its job, Tap Out stores the following locally on your device:
- The list of websites you choose to block, and your unlock duration.
- The current lock / unlock state and the countdown to the next re-lock.
- The identifier (UID) and the label you give to each NFC tag you pair.
- A small diagnostic log of the most recent errors, to help troubleshoot problems.
This data lives in your browser’s local storage (chrome.storage.local) and on the companion app running on the same computer. The extension reaches the companion app only over a local loopback connection (localhost).
Information Tap Out does NOT collect
Tap Out does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of the following — none of it ever leaves your device:
- Personally identifiable information (name, address, email, etc.)
- Authentication information (passwords, PINs, security questions)
- Financial or payment information
- Health information
- Personal communications (emails, texts, chats)
- Location
- Web browsing history
- User activity (clicks, keystrokes, mouse movement, network monitoring)
- Website content
The extension checks the site you are visiting against your own block list locally, only to decide whether to block it. It does not read page contents, inject scripts into web pages, or report your browsing anywhere.
How the information is used
Solely to provide the blocking feature on your device: to know what to block, whether focus is currently locked, and which NFC tag unlocks it. There is no other use.
Sharing and selling
We do not transfer your data to any third party, and we never sell it. Tap Out contacts no external servers and includes no analytics, tracking, or advertising. Your data is never used to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.
Data retention and deletion
Your settings remain in local storage until you change them, remove the extension, or clear the companion app’s data. Uninstalling the extension and the companion app removes the data from your device.
Children
Tap Out is a productivity tool, is not directed at children, and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new effective date.
